The gopher was declared the Mammal of the Year in 2015 by the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture. Few people have been lucky enough to spot gophers because of their rarity and shy nature. However, Bálint Vincze, typographer and photographer at the Paks Nuclear Power Plant has been snapping pictures of the gophers around the plant for years. His accumulated photographs are now on display at the Vörös-tó entrance to the Baradla Cave, including the third place winning photo in the XXXIII. Annual Hungarian Press Photo Exhibition’s Nature and Science Category.
