Not only people use perfume. The animal kingdom has innumerable examples of this behaviour. A simple case in point is what your dog does when you take it for a walk. Of course, animals do not prefer scents that we may find pleasant. Instead, they lean more towards carcasses, droppings, and other powerfully smelling things.
But why?
1. They can mask their own scent before the hunt and more easily approach their prey.
2. The odour strengthens relationships within the pack.
